A Fresh Spin On Tradition – Designed by Tom Myers

Posted on May 18th, 2018 by kittles.

This home has a classic feel that is inviting and familiar – a fresh take on the traditional style that feels balanced and refined.  The rich hues of blue pair well with the warm neutrals.  Designed for entertaining, it welcomes guests with a flowing layout.  Open concept-style boasting a large living room, dining room, wet bar and kitchen area – which is all visible upon entrance.

COLORS & PATTERNS

Variety of blue tones, beige, off-white and rich browns – a neutral palette with simple colors, florals, stripes, and soft geometric patterns are typical within a traditional space.  One interesting take was adding the bright fuchsia accents in the media room – which would have otherwise been a much softer space.

DETAILS

Glossy white crown molding and other intricate architectural details help define a traditional space, this was used strategically in the kitchen and with the classic grand staircase, which features a soft rug stair runner.  Not overly decorated, there is a minimalistic approach to accents and decor.  Chandelier lighting has been implemented in a variety of sizes – including two small pendants in the laundry room – how chic!  Visit www.indianalighting.com for all of the chandeliers and other fixtures they have to offer.

FURNITURE

In this particular design – with its more modernized approach – the furniture truly keeps this home grounded in traditional style.  Tufted barstools sporting nailhead trim, wingback chairs, Cheshire sofa, and chesterfields that face one another in a classic conversation seating style.  Symmetry plays a huge part in keeping everything cohesive.  The guest room also embraces this technique with matching upholstered twin beds. Overall, this traditional style brownstone is functional, elegant and inviting
